What is a domain?

A domain name, such as webavedomains.com, is your own address on the Internet. No two parties can ever hold identical domain names, so your domain is truly a unique identifier of you or your company. It is how your customers or friends will remember you and find you among the millions of other web sites on the Internet.

With a domain (or domain name) you can establish a "place" or "space" on the Internet for goods, services, information, or just to be cool. Common uses for a domain name are for setting up a web site like www.yourdomain.com or email services like questions@yourdomain.com. WebAveDomains.can help you do both, thanks to our Advanced DNS Management services, Email Forwarding options and Web Design offerings. Of course, the first step to establishing your online identity is to register a domain (see below).

How do I register a domain?

The WebAvenues Domains Easy 5-Step Registration Process:

1. Choose a domain name. The first step to registering a domain is to think of what you want your domain name to be. You can try out ideas by entering them in the text box on the WebAvenues Domains home page. If the domain is available, it will be displayed along with other similar domains that are available. (For instance, yourdomain.com may not be available, but yourdomain.net and yourdomain.org may be available - each one is a completely separate domain name).

Choose one or more domain(s) by checking the box(es) next to your selections, and you are ready to go onto the next step. Note: we recommend you secure all top-level domains (.com, .net, .org) if they are available, to protect your online identity. If one or more domains are not available, a message will inform you of this. If you need help choosing a domain, try the NameSpin option on our Domain Registration page (see below for details).

After you've chosen the domain(s) you want to register, it is time to log in. If you don't have an account, you can create one at this step. Otherwise, use your existing login to continue the process.

2. Choose the number of years you wish to register and select domain services (optional). The next step is to choose the length of your registration(s). You can choose to register your domain(s) for 1, 2, 5, or 10 years. The price for each is displayed next to the term (as well as on our pricing page). The more years you choose, the greater the discount, and you also won't have to remember to renew your domain name(s) as often. You will be given the opportunity to chose from a wide array of domain services (such as e-mail forwarding, SPAM Shield, WhoIs Privacy and more) as well as hosting packages. Remember, if you buy these services with your domain order, you will receive special bundled pricing.

3. Log in or create a new account, and enter your contact information. If you've just created a new account, you will be prompted to enter the account ownership information. In the event you lose your password, the system can identify you and help you get your password changed. If you have registered before, then you will be taken to the domain contact screen. This information is required to be associated with your domain but may be different from your billing and account contact information. If you have defaults for contacts, then the information will be pre-populated. After you have finished entering this information, you may proceed to the next step. Remember: you can change this information later if needed.

4. Enter your nameserver addresses or "park" the domain. Now you'll be prompted to enter the nameservers for your domains. These servers must be registered with the registry and be active. If you use a web hosting company, they can provide you with the nameservers for your web site. If you don't have nameservers, choose the "park" option (using the default nameservers) and the domain will "sit" on the WebAvenues Domains nameservers. Parking on our nameservers is completely FREE. You can update the nameservers when you create a web site (see our web hosting options) or you can use our email forwarding services to setup email on your domain name.

5. Finally, provide your billing information. The last step involves entering billing information. Make sure to enter a valid credit card number and expiration date. Your name and billing address must match the information on file with the credit card being used. Once you submit your order, our system will verify the billing information and, upon approval, your credit card will be charged. The domain name will then instantly be registered to you and made available in your WebAvenues Domains account. Each domain name is unique, so now that your domain is registered no-one else can register it until it expires (if you don't renew your registration).

Note: Please verify all information on the last page of the registration process. You will be sent an email confirmation but this page is your invoice and should be printed for future reference.

About Domain Transfers

You can transfer any domain name from another registrar to WebAvenues Domains. The only stipulation is that you cannot transfer a domain that was registered less than 60 days ago. When you transfer a domain, an extra year will be added on to it's existing expiration date and you will be charged the standard 1-year renewal price. The WebAvenues Domains transfer process is streamlined and completely automated, resulting in the most efficient and fastest possible transfers.

To transfer a domain to WebAvenues Domains, log into your account and select the Transfer option from the account services menu or visit our Domain Transfer page. Once you initiate the transfer, our system gets right to work. The first step is for the domain's administrative contact to confirm the request by following the instructions in our email. Once this is done, all you have to do is follow the instructions we provide and wait for the Global Registry to approve the transfer. In 5-7 days your domain should be available for management in your WebAvenues Domains account. Although most transfers take place within 5-7 days, we still recommend you initiate the transfer of your domains at least 2-3 weeks prior to their expiration date to avoid having the domain expire. You may check the status of your transfer at any time by logging into your account and selecting Registrar Transfer Status in the "Other Tools" section of your account services menu.

About Advanced Account Management

The Account Management section allows you to manage the settings for your account and any of the domains you own. You can:

  • Contact Priority Customer Support (24-hrs. a day)
  • View your Account Messages (including credit card expiration notices)
  • Update Name Servers for your domains
  • Update Contact Information for your domains or your account
  • Add services like email or url forwarding to your domain (available services)

What is a WhoIs search and how do I update my listing?

Every registrar maintains a WhoIs database of publicly listed contact information for the domain names registered with them and a central database is maintained by the Global Registry that collects information from all registrars. By performing a WhoIs search you are able to see the ownership information of any domain. Ownership information for your domains will also be listed.

To update your WhoIs information, log into your account and select "Update Domain Contacts" from your account services menu. You may also update your Default Contact Information, so that all future registrations through WebAvenues Domains will be pre-populated with that information. This is not to be confused with your Account Ownership Information, which is only used by WebAvenues Domains to contact you regarding important account information and is not displayed publicly.
